PERISHER XC WORK PARTY – April 2-3 - Lots to do and all the usual arrangements:

If you can make it, please RSVP by emailing Peter Ward at nswxc1@gmail.com. Even if you can only make one day, this would be of great help.

Meet at the Nordic Shelter at 9:00am for a 9:30 start. Wear work clothes, sturdy boots and bring work gloves and gumboots – be prepared for any weather. Bring food, drink and snacks, and also your own plates, cutlery and cups. March flies are about, so be prepared.

WORK PARTY REPORT - 5TH TO 6TH OF MARCH

The previous Work Party was held on the 5th and 6th of March and then continued on to the 9th with the focus on building the water mitigation steel bridges on the Sprint Loop.

Heavy rain threatened the weekend but only put a stop to work from 12 midday on Saturday. Scottish mist was the norm on Sunday which did not stop the building of the steel bridges or on the trails (XC skiers are hardy souls).

A determined team got a lot of work done on the Porcupine Track area with another team starting drilling in the expanding grout rock-breaking trial. Peter Cunningham's team was successful in building the steel bridges over the addtional working days.

Many thanks to all those who attended even though heavy rain was forecast. Thanks to Peter Cunningham and CAC for providing accommodation for those who needed it and the local skiing community who got involved despite the weather.

NORDIC JUNIOR/ U23 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS & OLYMPICS REPORT

Nine athletes were selected to represent Australia at the 2022 Nordic World Junior and U23 Championships in Lygna, Norway, from February 22-27. The team, which includes five skiers who have raced in World Cup events this season and two coming directly from the Winter Olympics, were one of the strongest to compete at this level of competition in many years. Local NSWACT XC skiers included Hugo Hinckfuss (who also only just previously competed in the Olympics), Zana Evans, Rosie Fordham,  Phoebe Cridland and Bentley Walker-Broose.

Australia had a team of 6 in the Olympics including Hugo - certainly a great experience for him so early in his XC racing career.
