This photo (above) includes some of the entrants in last year’s "PXC Cup", held in brilliant weather and plenty of snow. Perisher X Country (PXC) is all about promoting the activity of Cross Country Skiing to a wider audience so that one of the best-kept secrets around is not a secret anymore. Mini-Winter Update - PXC Cup Date Change, a New Event & Twilight Skiing – an Exercise in Flexibility (or making the best of the weather!)

PXC Cup

With the ski season taking a while to reset itself from its bumper start, finally the weather forecast has given us promising news to go with. Whilst nothing is ever guaranteed, hopefully we will have enough snow to start grooming the trails for this coming weekend.

The second running of the PXC Cup was scheduled for Saturday (13th of July), but race organisers have decided to change the race date to Sunday (14th of July) to improve the probability of having a better trail to ski on, allowing " Luke the Groomer" more time to prepare the trails.

This year the Royal Mug, I mean Cup, has a whole new meaning/message, with only a limited number being made.

The Inaugural PXC Cup (last year) started after the first hill on the 2.5Km, making it a different experience from the usual start at the Perisher XC Centre trail head. This year we will endeavour to do the same but if the weather is challenging, e.g. cold and windy or blizzarding, for skier comfort and safety, we will start closer to home. PXC Cup is an exercise in flexibility, aiming to provide the safest and most entertaining experience for participants.

Whilst it doesn't take an army of people to run this relaxed event, the race organiser, Wayne Pethybridge is keen to hear from anybody that can lend a hand on the day. Give Wayne a call/email on 0431 285 566 or wpethybridge@fastmail.fm

Wilderness Sports Cup

We have been missing the opportunity to get our skate skis out of mothballs with the cancellation of the Cooma Clean Out the Cobwebs event due to lack of snow.

Quick work by keen skiers and support from Wilderness Sports has seen the creation of the inaugural Wilderness Sports Cup, scheduled for Saturday 13th July at 10am.  Enter on-line at https://www.skiandsnowboard.org.au/events/45568/

Join us either as a participant or to cheer the young skiers on in their first race of the season.

Note:  Keep an eye on the weather and on the PXC daily Grooming Report. If the weather is putrid on Saturday, the event will be postponed to Sunday morning, same time same place.

Twilight Skiing Event 16th or 17th/ 18th

Trying desperately not to count the chickens before they hatch, the weather forecasters have pencilled in a slight lull in the weather at roughly the same time as our first ever Twilight Skiing FULL MOON event. Hopefully there will be brilliant weather, with the moon shining brightly upon skiers keen to ski under it.

The attached flier mentions that we may change the dates from the 16th (Tuesday) to the 17th (actual FULL MOON) or to the 18th dependant on which is forecast to be the best night.

The flyer also emphasises the need for interested people to text 0431 285 566 - PXC/ Your Name/ # of the people in your group that are coming .

If you are interested in being part of the fun, please read the flyer in detail so you don't miss anything.
