Welcome Archive!

Perisher X Country (PXC) is all about promoting the activity of Cross Country Skiing so that one of the best-kept secrets around is not a secret anymore. Please encourage everyone to go to the PXC website (Contact Us page) and subscribe to PXC NEWS, PXC EDGE and daily XC Trail Reports during winter. PXC News is focused on the activities of volunteers and those who have a keen interest in helping grow the sport of XC skiing. PXC is a sub-committee of the northern division of Snow Australia and aims to grow participation in XC skiing in Perisher Valley and beyond.

Pre XC Ski Week Edition (7/8-14/8/21)

Snow is falling! It is cold and light and just at the right time - check the cameras to see for your self. This is the perfect moment for a wee newsletter to update you on what is happening in the upcoming XC Ski Week.

XC Ski Week has already been featured in the Latest News story, XC Ski Week Gets a Makeover, and this Newsletter aims to provide more info to continue to whet your appetite for a week of fun and XC skiing.

Volunteers  are needed to help run the XC Week events and other activities like the Famous Coffee Tours and the Big Presentation after the last event of the week, the Snowy Mountains Classic. There is a core group that volunteer regularly and they need a hand, or even a rest from some of the roles so that they can enjoy their skiing, too. Email info@perisherxcountry.org , if you can help out anytime during XC Week.

Importantly, to keep the Nordic Shelter open we also need COVID Marshals. To book an hour, go to the daily The Perisher XC Centre Trails and Conditions Report , where you can click on a link at the bottom of this report.

The snow is plentiful and Dan the Groomer is laying great trails that the skiers are loving.  Surely over the 9 days of XC Week, there will be many fine weather days. It is like Christmas coming - we can't wait!

Coffee Tours

Yet again two Tours are planned, Tuesday and Friday. Coffee Tours have been running since 2013. Out of 14 Tours, we have only had to adjourn to a coffee shop (due to very bad weather) twice. Beautiful sheltered spots provide unique coffee-enjoyment venues. While chief barista, Wayne Pethybridge and his trusty apprentice are brewing the coffee off the main trail (somewhere), Tourers are formed into groups back at the Nordic Shelter (dependent on their abilities). Leaders and tail-end-charlies are needed to make sure each group arrives safely to get their coffee fix. We also need someone to register people in. Email wpethybridge@fastmail.fm or text/call 0481 268 598  if you would enjoy helping out.

What do you get ?- as much great coffee that you can drink and tasty treats as well, fresh from the Silver Bullet in Cooma, all to be consumed in a beautiful location off the trails.

Cost $15 (cash only)

Be where? Be at the Nordic Shelter by 9 am to register, for a 9.30 - 9.45 am leave. Slow groups off first.

The Big End of XC Ski Week Presentations - Saturday 14/8

This Big Presentation will be at the Nordic Shelter and held straight after the Snowy Mountains Classic presentation, as early as possible. Estimated start time is 3.00 pm but that will depend on the Snowy Mountains Classic.

Here we celebrate the Week that Was, and give out lots of prizes to those who are present. Each event that you go in during the week increases your chances of getting a prize.

We will have food and drinks supplied and depending on available wood, the Coffee Tour fire bucket might be alight too.

The Big Prize has been donated by Snowline Sports / Harro's from Lake Crackenback Resort - a pair of Kastle skis (Skating or Classical) and poles are up for grabs.

Other exciting prizes have been provided by Lake Crackenback Resort and Spa, the Eiger Restaurant, Wilderness Sports and Rhythm Snowsports.

A prize will also be presented to the best Instagram picture that has been sent to #Perisherxc

The much sought after Clubs Competition Bronze Ski will be awarded to the residential Lodge or Club that has been deemed to have the most participants over the whole of XC Ski Week. This prize allows the winners to spend $1000 at either the Sundeck Hotel or the Tathra Hotel. This is a joint sponsorship by PXC and the Sundeck Hotel - thanks Cliff Wallis for your great support.

Finally, we miss our Sydney friends, and sincerely hope they can all make it to next years XC Ski Week. All we can do is to keep the fun alive until we can all be together next year.
