In Switzerland and Germany, it is called the Foehn. In Canada, it is the Chinook and in Australia ?? maybe we can dub it the "Hairdryer" but no matter what name we give those warm winds, the effect is the same and the snow just disappears. Despite our hopeful intentions of grooming last night, the gaps in the trails have widened so much that it is impossible to rebuild.
What a great season we have had. Thank you to so many people for their donations to the Nordic shelter fund. It is your generosity that keeps this wonderful facility open for everyone.(See Tax Deductible Nordic Shelter Donations below) To National Parks who fund the grooming and allow so many skiers to enjoy this beautiful area in safety, while being active at a recreational level or training at an elite level. To the band of volunteers who are the backbone of our skiing community and contribute with hundreds of hours to maintain the trails in summer and provide so many events in winter and again to Joe McDonald and his team from 4Site who have provided a grooming service with such a positive attitude and a willingness to get things done, even at short notice.
Check the forecast and make your skiing decisions to stay safe. The wind for today is forecast to get very strong.
The Nordic shelter will remain open until the long weekend but grooming reports will not be a regular feature. However, some touring information may be published but not on a daily basis.
For more information, check in at Perisher XC Skiing Community Facebook
Thanks to so many folk for their positive comments on how much they have enjoyed the grooming reports and how happy they are with the facilities and conditions at the Nordic Shelter.
On behalf of Andy and Carol, Margaret and the Nordic shelter management committee, and the go to man for everything; Arnold, we wish you all the best for Summer and possibly great skiing in the Northern Hemisphere.
Sonja and John at the Nordic Shelter.
