REST DAY ACTIVITIES (OTHER THAN SKIING)

XC Ski Week can be a great time to bring the family down and if you want to spend some time off the snow, there are some options in the area that you can take the family to:

Some ideas to get you started:

Horse Riding : There are a number of horse riding companies in the mountains that can offer ½ day and full day trips. Here are some companies that operate in the area

Gaden Trout Hatchery: Check out where the famous trout and other sport fish of the Snowy Mountains come from. Tours of the hatchery are 10am and 2pm just off the Kosciusko Rd near Jindabyne. Click here for more information.  

Lake Crackenback Resort: Try your hand at mountain biking on the various grade trails around the resort. There is also Segway Eco Tours also available

Murray 2 Power Station: Go for a drive along the beautiful Alpine Way to Murray 1 Power Station near Khancoban . There is an interactive display at the visitors centre and tours of this 2nd biggest station in the Snowy Mountains scheme occur at 11am and 2pm daily except Saturday and Sunday in winter.

Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre-Cooma The Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre in Cooma is a state of the art visitor facility show casing the amazing story of the Snowy Mountains Scheme right through from the early construction days to the role the Scheme plays today in supplying vital electricity for south-eastern Australia and managing water releases for inland irrigation areas. The centre houses an exhibition hall that includes photographic collection, models, exhibits and interactive displays. A series of films are available for viewing and there is a coffee shop. A series of educational programs and resource tools are available for school visits. Open 8am - 5pm Monday - Friday and 9am - 2pm Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays.

Wildbrumby Schnapps Distillery Door & Café – Alpine Way before Bullocks Flat Come relax in our café serving European-inspired fare made with the finest local ingredients. Homemade cake and coffee available, plus German beer on tap. Located in the distillery next to the fully imported showpiece still, a full range of Wildbrumby Schnapps is kept on ice ready for you to take a tasting tour. They also make a great hot chocolate as well. Distillery door sales, sculpture walk and gift shop.

Snowy Vineyard and Distillery- Dalgety Cool climate wines are in so why not try the coolest in Australia. Located on the banks of the Snowy River, the Snowy Vineyard and Microbrewery is the perfect outing. The vineyard has been a tourism icon since the early 1980s for visitors to the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales. Come and try the range of craft beers and unique wines, enjoy the ambience of the indoor and outdoor restaurant. Bring the kids along as they have a great kids room as well as animal petting zoo, trampolines and outdoor games.
